DOMESTIC RENEWABLE HARDWOODS

All of our frames are produced in-house, using primarily maple hardwoods which come from local harvests by responsible foresters. We only work with suppliers we know have a vested interest in the woods they harvest remaining a renewable resource.

RECYCLED POLYURETHANE FOAMS

All of our scrap polyurethane foam is recycled rather than disposed. The scrap foam is chopped and re-bonded into usable blocks which can be pattern shaped to become soft durable support pieces for arms and rolled backs.

WATER-BASED GLUES AND FINISHING MATERIALS

All of our glues are water-based products which release no formaldehyde or hydrocarbon chemicals into the atmosphere. For most applications, water-based finishing materials are used on exposed wood surfaces.

MAXIMIZING WOOD USE TO ELIMINATE WASTE

Every attempt is made to maximize our wood use in order to eliminate wood waste. Even the smallest pieces of wood scrap in our frame operation are used for corner blocks and small framing design details. Any waste that may still remain is used as fuel to reduce our energy consumption.

ECOLOGICAL DISPOSAL PRACTICES

All cardboard, wood pallets and much of our production waste is recycled or properly stored for future use. Any remaining waste that must be disposed of is picked up by a reliable waste management company for further recycling scrutiny and ecologically friendly disposal.

USE OF SOY-BASED FOAMS

New soy-based poly foams have now been developed for the furniture industry and are being incorporated into many of Charles Stewart Contract seating products. These new foams are now equal in performance to the traditional oil-based foams. Additionally, these soy-based foams are a renewable resource and come from a domestically grown product and offer the benefits of reduced oil and energy consumption, and fewer emissions.
